[FC] truck bed swap

I have repaired alot of rust on a rampside and replaced the verticle section
of the mid-step. The floor is difficult to replace as there are many, many
spot welds holding it in. I'm not saying it can't be done - just that it
would be extremely difficult. You could trash the rusty floor to get it
out, but the good floor would have to have all the spot welds drilled out
and it would have to be welded into the rampside you are trying to save. On
my rampside I just cut out the bad sections (not to many) and welded in
replacement sections ( an engine cover can provide lots of metal for
replacing the floors and has the same crossection. I replaced the verticle
section of the step with 1/8" steel plate and mig welded it in. It is very
sturdy and is thick enough that it doesn't warp. GM built the rampside very,
very strong with lots of bolts and welds. I have a few photos I could send
if you wish. Dennis Dorogi

Subject: [FC] truck bed swap

Has anybody had any experience replacing the lower bed and mid step in a
rampside? I have a rusty truck and a perfectly good set in a parts van they
appear to have bolts holding them down around the perimeter but the back of
the cab which looks bolted and tack welded on, looks like it has to come off
to get the bed off. Aside from filling the seat hold down holes it looks
like a great match if there isn't a lot of cutting hidden welds from
underneath. I am hoping the mid step unbolts also once I remove the side
panels.

Anybody need a good set of sub mats and a top mat with one tear for the
center of a van? I could take them to Portland I would like to swap them for
a set of outside mirrors I could put on a 64 truck.

Thanks,
Tom St. Amand
