The resistor coil that is located in the defroster duct is Chevrolets way to control the fan speed. Voltage is varied by going through the resister coils for the lower speed and is bypassed for the high speed circuit. It is located in the defroster duct so any warmth that it produces is dissipated to the windshield area.

As for the chokes, they should be fully open when the engine is warm and the throttle position shouldn't change this setting. I suggest that you first verify that the carburetors are correct for you engine. If you have the correct carburetors, then I suggest that you order 2 carburetor rebuilding kits from a Corvair vendor. Using the 1961 shop manual and the 1962/1963 shop manual supplement, you should be able to rebuild the carburetors yourself. The manuals give step by step instructions that are easy to follow. Just don't get ahead of any one step because each step builds on the previous one.

Could I call on the collective wisdom out there and ask two questions?
1- What does the resistor in my 63 Rampy defroster ducts modify, rectify, control or ameliorate?
2- My FC runs beautifully, having recently hauled about 1200 lbs of furniture from Penna to Lorton, Va. for an AutoTrain trip down here to Daytona. However. it is prone to flooding and is tough to start unless I shove a screwdriver down each carb to dry it while cranking. Starts every time. But the question- When I floor the gas pedal shouldn't the choke plates go to the full vertical position, hot or cold, choked or any other position?
  Thanks- Ralph Loewinger

  Hello Folks,

I now have the replacement sheetmetal for making the collision repairs for
our Greenbrier, but the fellow at the body shop needs to make out an
estimate for the insurance company. He would like to base the estimate on
a service time, materials and specifications guide from the era (this is a
'65 Greenbrier). Does anyone have something of the sort from which I could
obtain copies of the relevant pages?
