[FC] wierd electrical problem

Hey folks, Speaking of electrical problems, I just found out today that my brake lights suddenly stopped working on the 61 Rampy. I've checked all the things I can think to check and find no "obvious" reason for the failure.
I was hoping someone out there could "enlighten" this Corvair "dummy" as to what I must be overlooking. I've checked the bulbs, the fuses and took the brake light switch out and checked it out. All are in good working order. I cleaned all connections as I was checking things out. I replaced the rear Harness last summer and was sure hoping I would not have to replace the whole front harness as well.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated before I surrender and take it to an "expert".
Thanks folks !
V/R Paul C.

I had a similar problem YEARS ago with a 6V, 1948 Ford PU. I had charged the
battery, apparently hooked up the cables backwards and the vehicle Polarity
changed. My electrical guru at the time told me to discharge the battery
compleletly, recharge it correctly, and then POLARIZE the generator.
Remember generators? those are the things we had before alternators. They
do require polarizing. Anyway, it was years ago, but I remember it did fix
  the problem.
