 ??? Thanks for the numbers but I have to say that the 4340 or 4130 could eventually work harden and break. I thought of using those to until I talked with my steel supplier.

Sure there is such a thing as stress proof steel:

Stress-proof C1144

Stress proof steel is strong but easily machined (apparently, I'd never heard of 
it before either) but since you wouldn't be doing a lot of machining on the sway 
bars, I think I'd use a nice strong alloy steel like 4340 or 4130.
