[FC] Air Filters

I'm wondering where you folks live/drive that you need reusable air filters? 
Must be really dusty there.

I can understand the need back when these FCs were daily drivers for 
everyone who owned one.  I don't understand how you are needing to change 
air filters in (say) 2,000 to 3,000 miles on paved roads each year.  Paper 
ones are not really THAT expensive and a whole lot less messy.

The last vehicle I owned that had an oil bath filter was a 1936 Ford.

What am I missing?
