:...if it's leaking from around the 'sandwich' of parts, you can
snug the screws down to stop it..."

I own three Corvairs; one is a van. The van has a propensity to leak from
around the sandwich" parts. While a proponent of buying from the Corvair
vendors, I've found their pumps to be consistent leakers. I've reported the
problem, but with no relief. As a result I've gone to purchasing my Corvair fuel
pumps from NAPA (part number: M3988); their pump is new (not remanufactured),
has the internal damn designed to minimize fuel leakage into the crankcase in
event of a diaphragm failure; their pumps are made in USA by Federal Mogul,
and do NOT have a propensity to leak... been using for the past two years with
good results. A tip: if using a pump that you are having to continually
tighten the screws to stop leaking, add thread inserts (i.e.: timeserts) into the
bottom casting: the pot metal threads give (deform) too much for consistent,
reliable thread grip.
