[FC] backup lights for a rampy - access door

I would like to place a pair early model backup light unit on the
rear access door of my 63 Corvan. I want them to flank the license
plate lights. Has anyone done that? I'm just a little concerned about
the backside of the housing coming in contact with the oil filler cap
and not being able to close the rear access door. The rear access
door is easier to replace to stock spec down the road.
