There is a lot of talk out there and you do need to separate the chafe from real info. There are lots of combinations out there that work. Some better, some just OK. You have to understand the the cam is the heart beat and personality of any engine.

For what you have asked below is really answered in the past posts but to put it concisely, start with a 110, 140, or 180 engine. Then put the 95 heads on and you will have a good combo that will cover any territory you want to and more than likely on regular gas. As far as tires, go with what you have or what will fit under the wheel wells but do go with a 3.55 diff. It might slow you a little bit when you tow but it is the best all around gear for an FC as far as I am concerned.

The above is said with almost a 100,000 miles of towing with an FC.

Wow. I'm really confused now. All this talk about cams. I really couldn't

say for sure all the driving conditions I will encounter. I guess what I

was really asking, instead of what I could build, was what could I take from

this car and what could I take from that car, to have a generally good

performer for the most situations. If I have to buy premium fuel, so be it.

I might even sneek in a sip of 100LL from time to time.

I appreciate all the responses. What I get from it all is I need a 110

engine with 95 heads, 140 exhaust(or headers), stock size tires, and either

a 389 or a 355 diff; and I'll have a decent all-around truck I can tow and

haul reasonable loads with. Reasonable being less than max capacity. I

have a Suburban for the really big jobs.

Thanks again everyone. Happy New Year.
