[FC] Intermittent engine turning itself off

there are so many possibilities on this one!
one that i have seen more than once , is the point lead to the coil gets  
very hard with age , and breaks inside usually near where it comes out of the 
 cap. if this happens , sometimes it will shut off and turn back on in time 
to  fire the extra gas buildup and blow the muffler off...
other one is the main connector in the engine compartment..
true bad coils are quite rare , but if you have some of the ignition add  
on's out there with the wrong coils , they run very hot and fail/short out 
until  they cool down.
try moving the coil lead with the motor running. try moving the harness at  
connectors at both ends (under dash and in engine compartment). i am 
assuming it  is not a fuel delivery problem...
it also can be a terminal bent down touching the case of the coil on either 
 wire...
look for cracks in coil point lead...
can you make it happen standing still? if point lead is bad , the vacuum  
advance moving the point plate may be enough to open the point lead just 
inside  the cap.
