Mike has fresh Clark's carbs, so I guessed that all is good in terms of 
internal passages...did not think of carboned up valves...I guess that 
would give the same symptoms?

When faced with hesitation, my first try, unless everything is new, is a 
bottle of Techron. It can clean up deposits in the entire system, and 
cleans any carbon that might be on the valves absorbing the first mist of 
gasoline that is being pulled in.
