[V8Vairs] Technical question on plasma cutters.

I have a small, older Century (20 amp) plasma cutter. There really isn't anything magical about it. It works just like an oxy/acetelyne torch only the "kerf" that you take out is smaller. The cut goes a little faster and the heat is much more localized. It wil also cut any type of metal and will cut several layers at a time, up to the max thickness of the machine you're using.

As far as the finish, that depends on how steady your hand is.

A plasma cutter isn't really like a laser, more like a 00000 oxy/acetelyne torch that gets really hot.

Practice with it a bit. Don't be afraid to use a jig or template. Plasma cutters can be very precise. This is good and bad. You can make very nice clean lines with one. If your hand isn't steady, it will show in the cut.

OK, I've asked this question over on CorvairCenter, so I may as well ask it
here as well.

I've got a friend who owns a plasma cutter who is willing to loan it to me
for a project. The question I have is: What kind of finish can I expect when
cutting cast iron (i.e. differential bell housing flange)?
