Bobby T. Don't have any words of wisdom as to WHY the bolt is breaking;but
you say (from below): "super-hard grade 8 unobtainium bolt";where did you
get the bolt that broke (or did it come on the car when you acquired it--The
car). My suggestion is to locate an aircraft hardware supply (there should
be several in the SF area),or go to an airport maintenance/repair shop and
ask for MS21250-**,it will be a 12 point external wrenching 180,000 psi bolt
with guaranteed properties;also,if possible ,take the old bolt with you and
correct shank length.. The shank length needs to go all the way thru the
parts being fastened together--does this make sense??? (VBG) Of course, I'm
probably just repeating what you've already done. Hopefully ,someone on the
list can explain the whys of the bolt breaking-my thought is that it might
not be as "strong" as claimed,if it is not proven high quality .     Dewey
