First, thanks to all for the help in solving my "no power over 3k rpms" in
my 65 Corsa Coupe. Whoever said, "cam tooth off one", was pretty close, but
it was actually a spun crank key - sheared the key completely off. It moved
about the width of the key itself, about 1 tooth. Everything else seems to
check out fine.

These "new" lifters though...one of them had an extra retaining clip shoved
down in them, and one retaining clip was bent pretty badly, and not
engaging. Took the extra out, and replaced the bent one. How's that for
luck? But, I've had my share of bad however.

and everything I read, said I shouldn't
bother measuring.

In the Classic Corvair, I specifically warn about careful checking of valve
to piston clearance when a high lift cam is used and the gasket step is
removed.

[<Barry>] True, you do, but you warn of cams over .450, and this was only
.440. Plus, I didn't take the step completely out, so, I thought I'd be
safe.

But, you're absolutely correct, as usual...should have measured to be safe.
I will next time, especially when I look at the valves, and can see the
difference between the heads - on one, the intake valves are almost flush
with the seats (didn't hit), but the other, the valves are sitting up.

However, I don't think I got my contact from being too close, but from the
crank gear spinning, and changing the timing of the valves in relation to
the piston. I'm suprised I didn't bend something, but my compression checks
showed 150-160 if I remember correctly.

Thanks again,
Look out for me in the autocrosses :D Greenville's "Corvairs in the Curves
XVI" is in a few weeks.
