<VV> choosing rear end ratio

Neal,
If I were you, I'd go to as tall a rear end ratio as you can find. In
the best case, that'd be a 3.08, next best is the 3.27. The reasoning
behind this is that a turbo boosts better when is sees a load. Taller
gears do that. Turbos develop their H.P. via more torque, not screaming
R.P.M.. The only down side is the launch becomes soggier because of the
taller gears. The real answer is to marry the 3.08 with an early trans
that has a lower 1st gear.

Subject: <VV> choosing rear end ratio

Hi, I'm currently working on a 66 Turbo convert. I'm in a position where
I can
easily choose a rear ratio. I know that the stock ratio was a 3:55 to 1.
Has
anyone ever thrown a 3:27 into a turbo? Did it work OK? If I had
unlimited
funds I would probably wrangle up one of those 5-speed conversion kits
but I
believe they are in the over $2000 range. Just looking for input or any
other
ideas. Thanks, Neal CPCC
