I always have used Bon Ami to clean the glass in my cars. It is fine enough 
that it does not scratch. I also have a glass polishing kit from Eastwood 
that has a polishing compound of the same consistency.
Either of these is a good choice to really clean your glass before applying 
RainX or a like product. My Dad used to use Coca Cola in the little bottles 
for this!
