My 65 110 W P/G has a slight howl around 50 MPH. I feel sure that it is the
Ring Gear & Pinion, and not the wheel bearings, but not positive. Since I am
just before rebuilding the rear wheel bearings and replacing the springs, I
was curious if there was some type of additive that would quieten it down
somewhat without rebuilding the differential. Other than revving slighting
when shifting from first to second, when I am accelerating, the transmission
works real well. I realize that this would be a band-aid fix, but if I have
to work on the differential I am thinking seriously about putting 3:11 or 3:08
gears in it to reduce the RPM's of the engine. I realize that this would
reduce the power somewhat, but that is not really a concern since I don't use
this car to auto-cross etc. Thanks.
