<VV> Bolting a LM flywheel

Yesterday I went out to start my Corvair and heard an odd souind when I 
turned the key, it didn't start. Today I pulled the starter and found 
that I had a cracked snout. I read in Corvair Basics that  this is 
common with the riveted flywheels. Also read the Tech Guide about 
bolting the flywheel myself. I am thinking about doing this  and would 
like to hear the pros and cons from someone that has done it before.  I 
am very mechanically inclined, and there is also a fully equipped 
machine shop where I work.
