what kind of oil did you try?  IMHO, there are two very good penetrants
available.  1. Hoppe's Powder solvent-used to remove powder from gun barrels,
is an excellent penetrant, not really a lubricant.  an extra bonus, it just
doesn't go away, no evaporation-the amount you put on just stays there.
(available at gun stores/shops). 2. Kano oil, widely used as the best
penetrant, and has some lubricating properties.  try soaking the rings with
either and I bet they come loose.  bob
