I've seen LOTS of grease-coated brake shoes at work. When wheel seals fail
on trucks, it's common. The usual fix is to replace the shoes. Sometimes
the customer wants us to clean them with brake-clean. On occasion, the
mechanics will run them through the parts washer, mostly as a courtesy to
me, not as an attempt to clean them.
These shoes are contaminated with gear oil, not grease. Not sure if it
makes any difference.
