I wish I could find some Corvairs in the same shape. Just got another old, LOW
mileage car. An 89 Chrysler New Yorker, Mark Cross special designer edition.
30100 actual miles when I brought it home. 3.0 liter V-6, 4 speed with
overdrive. White exterior, with smokey blue/gray interior, with every bell and
whistle you could add at the time except sunroof, which I would not want
anyway. Why couldn't some of these Ladys have bought GM? Kind of a strange
deal, I had been trying to sell it for a good friend, belonged to his Aunt who
is now 94, and has not even been in it in for 2 years. Only John drove it when
he came in from U of Hawaii to check on her. I found out what it was costing
them to just have it sit there, $122.21 a month just for insu. I offered to
take over all expenses as to up keep, insu, maint, regs, inspection, if he
would sign it over to me. He went for it, so I pay nothing for a very low
milage car, and he is on my insu. as a driver of the car. He can use it
anytime he is in town, so no rent car, and didn't cost me a dime. It is not
without expense though, just put on new tires, still had the factory
original's on it.Trans acts funny when its hot, won't down shift without a
clunk, mostly at stop lights and such. Checked the maint. scheld. and it
should have had a trans service and tighten the bands at 24,000,and I am sure
it didn't. Hope that clears it up. Drives very nice though, much nicer than
the 87, and has to get better than 13 mpg around town as in the 87. So now I'm
back to 3 cars on the insu. The Astro, tow/work truck, the 87 New Yorker, and
now the 89. It should be very nice when I get it up to date. Still have Conan,
and Anna Belle Lee, and the 61 wagon, but have had NO time to mess with them.
It's too hot anyway, 101 today, same tomorrow. Will try again in the fall.
Sorry it's so long, but this is a nice one. I like it, and I'm not a Chrysler
man, think they stole the design from GM, reminds me of Mom's 85 Park Ave.
