The French collector car magazine, Retroviseur, featured the Corvair in it's 
February 2004 issue.  In a side bar the magazine discussed "Ses concurrentes 
en 1962" (its competitors in 1962).  The article begins by pointing out that 
the Corvair was greatly disadvantaged by taxes slapped on products imported from 
the U.S. the result of which was that, while the Corvair was aimed at the VW 
at home by virtue of its price, it found itself in another class entirely in 
France with a price of 24,000 NF for a Monza "berline" (I think that's a 
sedan).  Anyway, the magazine goes on to show that, by price in France, the car was 
in the same price-range as the Mercedes 220 S (25,300 NF) and the Jaguar MK II 
(25,400 NF).
