<VV> 180 hp carb idle problem

I have a stock 180 hp carb that seems to run fine at high speed and
idles fine at cooler temperatures.  It loads up and dies after car is
hot.  The carb is getting very warm.  It starts right back up if I hold
the throttle to the floor.  Any ideas to the cause.  I recently put the
stock fuel filter back on with no effect.  I was using a regulator
inline.  I have eliminated the choke as a culprit by forcing it wide
open.
Motor has only got 5000+ miles since overhaul.
