I just commented a minute or so ago about pulleys.   Too often a Corvair
will sit for long periods of time and the pulleys will rust, which wreaks
havoc on any belt you put onto the car.   

Check the pulleys... if they're not absolutely smooth on the insides that
contact the belt, they should be.  Anything else is rough on belt life.
