You seem to have a mental block........ggg         

Take the HEAD off the compressor...look at the "reedvalves" [ little metal 
fingers]  and if not broken.......FLUSH  the passages to get out the crud that 
is holding them open!

Your comp. probably puts out 8 cfm at 40 psi.....the compressor is probably 
running at 400 rpm....that's 0.02 cubic foot per revolution...

It has to be TRAPPED... to build up....
