I spoke too soon. After mulling over what had transpired, and having a cold
one, I remembered that I had a tool to JUST remove the U joint flange from
the spindle. Why not try it. Usually I just set the whole magilla up in the
press, using my special spacer, and press away. It usually works. Well it
pulled that flange off just fine. Then over to the press to press out the
spindle, and presto; done.
bearings look fine; we'll inject some high temp grease and reassemble.
