Wow, thanks for all these tips.

I should have mentioned that I have tested my connections and voltage
at the battery and starter.  I have brushed and cleaned the battery
terminals and used different (known) good batteries.  I have checked
and double checked the wiring and ground points.  Same result.  I am
going to take the starter out and investigate it further further
tonight.
