I read an extensive test on motor oils several years ago and it showed that
after 1500 miles (in a waterpumper) Mobil1 was at 77% of it's rated
viscosity.  That was far superior to the Castrol GTX, Honda synthetic and
Golden Spectro that were in the test.  It was interesting to find that the
Castrol rated better than the Honda synthetic.  Smokey Yunick claimed that
the base stock in Mobil1 would last almost indefinitely but the additives
are quickly depleted.
