<VV> new car for me - towing

VV-ers,

OK, here's the deal. The car needs an alignment in a bad way according the current owner - I have no reason to doubt him. The car is 6 hours away from me and I can only get there on Saturdays. The car is also not currently licensed so it can't legally be driven on a road right now. I could send the seller the money, have him send me the title and get a license from the VA DMV - and I would do that but I'd have to wait until next week to get the car (and I want it NOW). I could then drive it to a guy about an hour away who says he can do the alignment for me - assuming driving the car as is for 40+ miles is OK (probably so). I would need to get it to him by 2pm-ish on Saturday so he could get it done. Probably do-able. I could then drive my new baby home. Now the other thing is there are 10 miles on the rebuild so I can't just hop on the freeway (interstate to you suthunas) and cruise at 70, I have to do the whole vary the rpm's thing. This would end up making the drive home take a while - to the point that I'd probably spend the night in hotel instead of trying to do everything in a day.

So here's what I'm a gonna do: I'm borrowing a big old Suburban and a car trailer (all four wheels off the ground) and I'm going to tow it home to Virginny. When I get it here I'll do a preliminary alignment (maybe a final one - who knows) in my driveway on Sunday, get the car registered on Monday, take it to a local alignment guy who has done Corvairs in the past on Tuesday and live happily ever after.

Yay.

Thanks to all for your comments - you guys are a big part of why I decided to go ahead with my hair-brained idea of getting an old Corvair. I know I'm not in it alone.

What am I missing here? What's wrong with taking the alignment specs and
the car to an alignment shop and letting them set it to the written specs?

Make sure the tire pressures are correct and drive the car home with your
support vehicle following.
