When I read your post it made my spine tingle.  Thank God you came  through 
OK.  I think you had someone looking out for you.  When I load  my Corvair on 
my trailer I have to pull it waaay forward to get enough weight on  the tongue. 
 The Corvair's rear wheels end up almost over the trailer's  rear tandem axle.

 
You'll be telling that story for a long time, thankfully.
