Thanks to all who jogged my memory.  The two I had in mind had to have been the Dauphine and the 2CV.  Reason I asked was that I found an old Bill of Sale where I purchased a 1959 Renault 4 door in December of 1961, but the bill of sale did not have a model number on it.  I paid $300.00 for it and knew it had a welded up block that was still leaking water and burning lots of oil. (I was young back in 1961, had two young babies and was broke as all get out).  I bought a used engine from a salvage yard to put in it, but to late found out that it was from a 2CV that had a much less powerful engine.  They swapped out O.K., but the engine was so gutless that a head wind would slow you down from 55 MPH (which was wide open with a tailwind) to 30 MPH with every gust.  It did get fabulous gas mileage though.  I also remember that the generator went bad and I modified one from a Ford to fit on it. (Generator would darn near stall it, but kept the battery up).  Thanks for the trip down memory lane, even if it wasn't a good memory.
