Doug
I'll go along with JR here.

As for your water pumper, that's a common knowledge thing, especially on the older cars.

Ran my 73 Charger SE 440 CI for 40 miles on I-90W near Buffalo at 110mph until I noticed Just the slightest wisp of steam escaping from the hood. Radiator popped a pinhole.
Probably should NOT have had the AC running. (when you're 20 years old, you do dumb butt stuff like that.)

Dropped car into neutral, opened windows, turned heat on full blast and coasted about 2 miles, steam stopped, came to the top of a small rise and there sat the State Man, Radar camera out. By that time I was going 55--thank God. Changed the T-stat to a 180 (cant' do that anymore on a computer controlled car), soldered up pinhole, good to go.

With today's newfangled waterpumpers, I don't know how much it would help, but I'd sure as heck try.

On the Vair, I trust the engineers. I DO remove my lower shrouds, as most folks do below the Manson-Nixon Line, but I let the fan do it's job. Of Course I clean under the turkey Roaster, make sure no leaves or pine needles are near the oil cooler, etc.

Of course, if you're really worried about cooling......
Dare I say it......
An Electric fan???<GGG>
