Subject: <VV> new "TransVair" owner question

Greetings,

I'm a long time VW bus owner. I have a 77 VW bus with a freshly rebuilt
1967 Corvair 110/PG that replaced the tired 2 liter VW motor. I currently
have 700 miles on the engine which was professionally rebuilt with all
new/rebuilt parts from Clarks. I expect it'll be next spring before I take
any road trips over 100 miles, but that begs a question. What should I
include in my onboard emergency parts stash before venturing too far away
from home?
Thanks in advance for any responses.

Mike, I would say at the very least, a fan belt and a fuel pump, if you are
using a mechanical one. This is a fairly often discussed subject and is
subject to your opinion. Lots of parts (spark plugs, points, distributor
cap & rotor, coil) are common to other Chevys of that vintage and available
at most auto parts stores, Conversely, they don't take up much space and
could be installed in the time it would take to go get them. CORSA roster
if you are a CORSA member, Triple A card and cell phone. If your engine has
been converted to a pointless ignition, Ignitor, etc. most people recommend
a points plate with points on it as an emergency replacement. I'm sure
you'll get lots of replies, most of them serious.
