Kent already posted about cleaning and painting - not too much cost 
there, but lots of time.  You could consider the same in the engine 
compartment.  Clean and paint the air filter housing, clean up the 
alternator, that sort of thing.  Lots of little stuff to unbolt and 
clean.  One little project that I thought made a big difference was 
putting a bushing kit on the carb cross shaft.  A little money there, 
but if maybe a good thing to ask Santa for.  Look for little stuff that 
you can easily unbolt and work on.
