It was my original email to Mike that stated the Rear grille and shifter
were different on Corsa models vs Monzas.
Mikes responce was " where's the beef... oops I mean proof". Well it seems
the list pretty much confirmed the rear grille difference. Now we have to
settle the Corsa shifter being quicker issue. Two well known Corvair Gurus
have posted conflicting view points on this issue. Seth says they are the
same with only the attaching tabs screwed on the housing as being different.
Mark C. says he swapped out the shifter in his 1969 model for a Corsa unit
and it was noticable shorter than the Monza shifter with no other changes.
Mike understandable states that anecdotal evidence is not definitive proof.
Where is the written proof? I emailed back that Clarks catalog states that
the Corsa shifter is quicker. Mike says thats good but not good enough. Wow,
you're a tough one too please :o)
OK, now for some definitive proof. I dug out both my Corvair parts
manual and the 1965 Assembly manual to see if there is any documentation
that the Corsa shifter is in fact different from the Monza (excluding the
tabs which we already know about). I have a little experience with
researching differences since I author the earlier post about the difference
between the 1965 and 1966 models. ( by the way now updated to 124
difference)
To make a long story short.... the Corsa shifter is different than the
Monza shifter. Both the assembly manual and the Corvair parts catalog list
different shift lever assemblies. They both explicitly state that one part
number is for Corsas 10700, and the other lever part number is "
10100-10500" The housing assembly number is the same for both Corsas and
Monzas so the tabs must just be added on.
So there's the proof, from both GM, Clarks Corvair, and anecdotal
evidence from Mark C. Hope this convinces even the most sceptic.

better if Clarks listed different parts (new or used) for the Corsa shifter
vs the Monza shifter. It's one thing to say it's quicker or it "feels"
quicker but something has to be different for it to actually be quicker.
It's not in the transmission so it has to be in the linkage somewhere.
Inquiring minds want to know!

shifter kit C3943. There is a note regarding the Corsa originally coming
with a quicker shift. I have also read this elsewhere in my Corvair library
but I can't remember where but I hope the Clarks note about the Corsa
shifter being quicker satisfys your criteria of proof.
