Chris,
My take on this is that you should discuss this with the mechanic. Those 
parts MUST be replaced if you want a like new engine. Especially the pistons, and 
maybe the valves and guides. Why put all that money into an overhaul and not 
get "the best"? If these parts are not replaced, then what does the mechanic 
intend to do about the parts that are worn? What kind of a mileage guarantee are 
you getting on this overhaul? Is that sufficient?
