<VV> 1960 Vs 61~64 gas Tanks

Besides the obvious 11 vs 14 gal. what is the diffecrence between 1960 and 61~64 gas tanks. More importently, why won't a latter tank fit in a 1960. Ignoring, of course, that enything will fit if you use big enough of a hammer.
