Sometimes the rocker balls make that sound.  Pull the rockers and look at
them.  If any are badly worn, replace them or at least grease them before
reinstalling.  The Corvair rocker lube system is questionable at best.  Only
when the push rod is in the exact position to squirt oil thru the hole in
the rocker is there any lube getting in there.  The push rods spin around
with the lifters as the engine runs.  On inline or V engines the oil lays in
the rockers and lubricates better.
