my many years of running a 64 spyder with 63 turbo heads (put compression
too high for casual street use) was hours of trying different things. carb
issues do not apply here, i had several mods to rods and jets etc that helped
other issues. i ended up with cd ignition(big difference..now remember , this is
back in early 70's before a lot of choices on electronics) recurving the
distrib to dump in advance quicker but stay about the same amount, and i had to add
additives to sunocos best gas. once in a while i got some av gas or unico
racing stuff from race track guys. the reason i converted that car to 110
powerglide was to be able to travel all over and caravan without issues. but boy i
miss it when i want to feel power when stepped on..it would pin the boost gauge
.. and on a cool day look out!
start with trying it with one spring removed from mechanical advance, run
electronic ignition with hi output coil and darn good wires etc(seths wires?) or
spend real money and try a dale unit. the higher compression was nice because
it ran like a 110 or better at low end and boost came in sooner but i was
always worried in warm/hot weather about that knock.
