I'm surprised no one has mentioned the spot welder option. Should be easily rentable - a 2 handed electric spot welder has one electrode you hold in each hand and is used from one side of the joint. Fit the panel with some overlap, press down with the two electrodes anywhere on the joint, hit the button, and three seconds later you have a pair of spot welds. Repeat a couple hundred times and you have a secure welded joint. Metal should be painted with weld through primer first and sealed later with your choice of body sealant or paint.
