Subject: <VV> Survey: How Many Made It Home?

After several months of email back & forth, I flew from Orlando to
Leavenworth, Ks. and even though the '64 Monza conv. w/red int. & Factory A/C (mostly
removed) was in poorer condition than emailed pics indicated, bought it &
headed out to Orlando. Seemed to be running/shifting OK so I pressed on. It
was using a little oil & even less auto. trans. fluid and I could smell exhaust
fumes and was also wandering a little bit. Through western Ark., Pine Bluff
& to Mom's at Greenville, Ms. for the night. Back on the road next day but
hit heavy rain SE of Hattiesburg headed toward Mobile. There I discovered
that there was no weatherstipping on the leading edge of the windshield (or
hardly anywhere else on the car) as water was pouring in everywhere up front.
Bought a roll of clear box tape which helped. Made it home - 1,511 miles -
unbelievably. I think it lost less than a qt. of trans. fluid and maybe 2+
qts. of oil.
Am I a fool or just lucky?
Remind me to tell you about the '66 Caddy Fleetwood Brougham 4 dr. which I
did the same thing with from north of St. Louis...... 11 mpg and bad exhaust
fumes.
