Smitty, you identify two valid viewpoints:  That our conventions should serve the purpose of bringing Corvair owners together to enjoy their cars, and that our conventions should offer some enjoyment for the non-enthusiast family members.  But you appear to be concluding that the latter comes at the expense of the former.

We in CORSA try to go to tourist-friendly destinations not because we value tourism over the car, but because there are limited choices when it comes to places that can accomodate groups our size.  Once you begin looking for a hotel with enough guest rooms, a big enough parking lot, facilities for vendors and seminars and a banquet, well, the Econo-Inn alongside the Interstate isn't among them.  Then, once you've identified the suitable places, why not go to the more interesting ones?

Still, while much of our convention location choice is driven by our sheer numbers, the real answer remains that our conventions are conducted where there exist willing and energetic groups of volunteer CORSA members doing the work.  Such groups of members are in even shorter supply than suitable locations!
