Gasoline in the oil is usually as symptom of a failed mechanical fuel 
pump.  You could have a carb where the needle is hung up on the side 
of the seat, but usually the engine won't idle but runs well at 
speed, if this is the problem.

You need to change the oil is there is a gasoline smell in the oil 
before trying to start the engine.  Even though you might not worry 
about the chance of a crankcase explosion, gasoline does not 
lubricate nearly as well as motor oil.
