Check the cheapest things first--distributer clamp and harmonic balancer (if 
the two marks on the outer ring and inner hub on the balancer don't match time 
the engine to the inner mark not the outer one and order a rebuilt one ASAP). 
 Probably not a culprit, but check the inside of your distributor cap for 
problems as well.  After those items it gets more time consuming and expensive.
