Fuel pumps seem to have greater longevity in cars with return lines, like
Turbos, AIR or a/c cars and cars with the gas heater all else being equal. I
recommend adding a return line to any car that didnt come with one factory,
has lots of nice small benefits, not least of which is flooding pretty much
ceases on hot starts.

The pressure relief when the engine shuts down seems to really improve
diaphragm life in the pumps. Anyhone who has worked on a Corvair that doesnt
have a return line has usually discovered the pump stays pressurized for
days after you shut off the engine otherwise.
