Been there: AH 100-4 except it was pull back for both 1st and 2nd.

Might have something there except swap first and second since need a new 
cluster anyway then put a reversing linkage on the shifter as well, then 
the only change would be left and back for reverse and a lockout would be a 
good idea.

Is interesting that it used to be an old joke to pull on a buddy with a 
Muncie to reverse the shift arms.

Trouble is that a custom cluster gear is not going to be cheap unless you 
could use the Chrysler gearset. Another consideration is that the Corvair 
gearbox was never designed to run in a geared condition constantly, Locking 
up the shafts in fourth also dramatically reduces the stress in a 
transmission. Might not be a problem but need to consider.
