Yes, Ford, a leader in safety :

The 1957 Ford was advertised as "27 % more rigid" (than what ?), which meant it would impale whatever you could not avoid (taken together with the "road hugging" weight.")

Of course, that is now the domain of the SUV, whose unspoken slogan is "If you can't drive well enough to avoid the accident, at least survive it," but that assumed you don't hit something even bigger !

Remember when the Corvair was the "small" car ?

At the Detroit CORSA convention, a Greenbriar lost its brakes and rear-ended a Ford (?) executives new Lincoln Continental at around 25-30 MPH, and totals the Lincoln, bending the roof.

All of the onlookers were lamenting the damage to the Corvair, while the Ford guy was losing his mind, getting no attention at all.

That was when car were actually made of metal.

Ah, yes, Buck's "road-hugging weight" ! ("When better cars are built, Buick
will build them !" but until then, they will build junk, like everyone
    else.)

That was Ford. (Road Hugging weight) -Seth
