The recent discussion about meeting important people, causes considerable thinking back to the opportunities that I have received from public service. Regardless of your personal political feelings, meeting people who have given much to the welfare of their fellow human beings can be highlights of your life. Have had the opportunity to see, meet and in some cases get to know 7 Presidents from Eisenhower to Reagan. Former Vice President Dan Quayle was legal council to my Legislative committee in the early 70's while he worked his way through law school. Have served with and for 9 Governors in the State of Indiana. U.S. Senators Richard Lugar, Birch Bayh, Evan Bayh and several Presidential Cabinet members are people I have worked with in the past. One of the most interesting people was Minn. State Senator "Skip" H. H. Humphrey III. Probably one of the most dedicated persons was Chuck Colson. His prison ministry has changed the lives of thousands.
The person who has impacted my life the most though, is Billy Graham, having met him in the late 40's when he was just starting his ministry.
However, each of these individuals is just another person, no more valueable or important to each of us than the 100's of friends we have here on Virtual Vairs and in Corsa. - - - -Dick Shank
