I have a Direct Lift 4 poster- was about $2400 including shipping ($400) and
the sliding jack (see below). It came with (free) a sliding tray for a
bottle jack or tools, a caster kit (needed if you want to move it around)
and 3 plastic drip trays (enough to cover the entire bottom of the car). As
Matt says, you are not a commercial shop, so don't need the overbuild
necessary in that application. The light duty lifts are all most of us will
ever need.
Suggestion- get a sliding jack assembly with it. This device runs on the
side rails and has a lifting post on each side. When you pump the hydraulic
jack, both posts rise, lifting both sides of the car at once. Very handy!
I should caution you about one thing- most of the hobby 4 posters have a
pretty standard separation between the side rails (the thingys that the
wheels are supported on). My Direct Lift does not have the clearance needed
to drop or install a fully dressed Corvair engine. I have to remove the side
and front sheetmetal and exhaust (especially headers) before it will drop
thru the gap, and then it only just clears. It's STILL better than doing it
on the floor with a hydraulic jack, though!

> I am looking to purchase a four post lift for my home garage. Want it
mostly to add an additional parking space as the collection is continuing to
grow. Also thought that it would make pulling the engine out a piece of
cake (yes/no?) as I am contemplating a clutch and flywheel replacement this
winter.

Prices are all over the place. American made vs. China imports? I find it
hard to compare quality and not get ripped off.

home use?
