    Well, tires usually contain air, which normally has  water vapor in it.  
Air also has oxygen which can cause things to oxidize  especially if they have 
YEARS of close contact.  I guess the answer is to  inflate tires with DRY 
nitrogen as that would eliminate both the water vapor and  the oxygen.
