Warranties don't usually cover the labor either. They can afford to give
away a few mufflers for what they charge in labor.

I had a Midas guarantee where "you will never pay for another muffler as
long as you own your car !"

What they don't say, and what I found out, was that the guarantee does NOT
cover brackets and pipes, which MUST be replaced or they will not honor the
warranty !

It was actually cheaper to buy a whole new setup from another shop that to
get my "free" muffler from Midas !
------------------------------

Sounds just like my old Cole Muffler guarantee for my 83 Eagle, lifetime
muffler(yeah right), annual replacement, had to do tailpipe too, every
time. They would walk under the car with a hammer in their hand, I'd shout,
"You smack that front pipe or converter with that hammer, I'll take that
hammer to your knees". They listened, and the rest lasted the life of the
car. Best part was every year they would tell me the car needed all 4
shocks. I'd say, go right ahead..........warranty is in the glovebox. This
went on for about 8 years with a different guy every time. Even better was
the fact the front shocks on that thing were a bear to do...............

Sears one time advertised a 19.95 muffler "installed". Went in with a 72 El
camino 6 cylinder, said put a new muffler on that pipe. They came out with
a complete exhaust system and came to tell me it needed everything. I had
to tell them that the front pipe and motor was out of a 78 Pontiac, the
exhaust was made to fit, and that his system would not fit the car but the
muffler would fit the pipe as the muffler I had on it was junk.
They wouldn't do the job.............said there wasn't enough money in it
for them.........
Bait and switch?

I had a certificate for a freee oil change at Valvoline, They kept pushing
me for more and more "add on's" Motor flush, upgrade to synthetic, upgrade
to premium filter, tranny fluid drain and flush, radiator drain and flush,
power steering, drain and flush, differential and transfer case fluid
change, wipers, fuel injector and upper motorcleaning, and even the
battery. Told them do what they want.............but all I had was the oil
change certificate, no cash or credit card...........They wanted me to sign
off that I refused their recomendations...........like $700 worth of
services.
Bait..............
